Got the set menu in a private dining room. Food was very fresh, with the menu covering a variety of seafood and preparation styles. Items were cooked well (not over or undercooked) and we left very satisfied and full at the end of the meal.
Service was attentive, and available at call via a button on the table.
Atmosphere is OK. We were in a private dining room but you can still hear other diners in the neighbouring rooms. There’s not much to see out the windows as it is right next to Rhodes station, however it does have the advantage of easy transport including underground parking at Rhodes Central.
We had a booking for 2 people with Dinner Course #2 which had a few options for a main dish. We got a room that was being shared with other guests, but there was a screen so we had enough privacy for ourselves. At the start, the waitress said the options a bit too fast which made it hard to decide what we wanted. It would've been good to have the options on a small menu and a bit of time to decide. Otherwise, the food came out quickly which was fresh and tasted great! I also mentioned in the booking that it was for a birthday, but there didn't seem to be any difference which was slightly confusing. But overall, the service was great, and the experience was well worth the price.
So…. The biggest issue with this place is the absence of signage to show where it is. We had to call twice to find it. Food, I felt value for money, for where it is, not expensive. Decor is wonderful, very nice. The restriction of 90 minutes seating feels unnecessary given the ample amount of vacant tables.
One of the restaurants with highest quality of service in the area. Their sashimi is very fresh and premium, and they also have a very extensive menu. Interior is very clean. It is a very respectable place to take friends, dates or even more professional partners. The price is higher end but is completely justified by the quality you are getting.
Elegant Japanese, shame about the service ! We have tried Komatsu course lunch meals for our family. The egg curd, baked fish were good, and the sushi was exceptional with "al dente" rice grains" wrapped in fresh, cold fish slices. Nagasaki udon was good, but Soba noodle was disappointing with droopy noodles. I have asked for something special (extra garnish etc) for our daughter's birthday but the manager at the counter was quite cold and arrogantly ignored it. So our lunch celebration ended with no climax. We could have a much better reception & celebration with $65 pp meal elsewhere.
Rhodes Central should be renamed Foodie Central. While there are some general stores in the centre. There is an impressive collection of restaurants.
Komatsu is situated at one end of the centre and from the outside, it is unpretentious. The decor of the decent size main room is generic modern Japanese aka light tones and wood furnishings. It can get a little noisy there but it is much nicer if you can score a private dining room out the back. There are several of various sizes. However, you will likely need to look beyond the crowd favourites like sushi rolls or udons. Orders of multi course set meals are probably required.
Our set (see photos) are well paced and delicious. Textures and flavour profile changes from course to course. The presentation is top-notch. We were taken a little aback when the waitress announced one of the tempura was pufferfish. We thought we misheard so we asked again and she clarified that the poison has been removed. That's reassuring.
In the end, it is not cheap when you consider this is not a hatted restaurant with great views but for the right occasion, it is still worth the price especially if you can secure one of the private rooms.
Not authentic Japanese. Shockingly bad.
They gave us a table right next to a family with noisy kids despite all the empty tables around. Terrible atmosphere throughout the night.
Rolls filled with seafood sticks and not so authentic ingredients. Very bland taste. Miso eggplant was the only alright dish.
Limite menu selections. Quite pricey for the small portion and not so tasty food.
Extremely disappointed with my first visit. Definitely won't visit again.
Really not worth the money.
Had omakase here tonight, the ingredients are top quality, taste is great, there’s a wide variety and generous portion of sashimi. The chef is really friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended if you like seafood or sashimi. Perfect for a date night!
